Questions and answers from customers

When drenching sheep, when can retreat the animals with Nilverm LV Oral Wormer?

  1. Q When drenching sheep, when can retreat the animals with Nilverm LV Oral Wormer?
Asked by Solomone Bogisa on August 4, 2022 11:00 am
    Answered by the admin

Working out when to re-drench your sheep should be done according to a drench plan & results from worm testing. There is no set retreatment program that you stick to as it is pointless drenching if no worms are present. Testing worm egg counts is also recommended before drenching.

To work out the best drench plan for your area, we suggest going to http://www.wormboss.com.au/sheep-goats/. There are simple guides you can work through that take into account the rainfall in your area, amount and type of feed, time of year, lambs on ewes etc., to best guide you on when to drench your sheep and how to set up your drench plan.

Nilverm LV Oral Wormer is only registered for use in Sheep, Cattle, Pigs and Poultry, not goats.  Drenches can only be used in other species, for example, goats or alpacas, if you have written directions from your veterinarian.

  • Have the pigs slightly hungry by giving a smaller feed than usual the previous evening.
  • Have ample feeding space available.
  • Treat groups of comparable sizes together to avoid the risk of small or weak pigs not receiving their share of medicated feed.

Application Directions for Poultry:

  • Administration of drinking water.
  • For maximum efficiency against worms, the drinking water medicated with Nilverm LV must
  • be consumed in the shortest possible time.
  • Water should be withheld from the birds 2 hours before nightfall.
  • The required amount of medicated water is then made available so that the birds can start drinking it at daylight or when the lights are turned on.
  • Replace the medicated water with fresh water as soon as it is all consumed or after 8 hours.
  • Treat broilers or other chickens raised under continuous lighting by withholding drinking water for 1 hour in summer or 2 hours in winter, and then give medicated water as above.
  • Medicated water remaining in any tanks or reservoir should be flushed out with fresh water when the treatment is concluded.
  • For best results with medicated drinking water
    • Administer Nilverm LV Wormer in the drinkers that the birds are accustomed to using and check that all the drinkers are working properly.
    • Avoid treating on a day when normal water consumption of a flock might be reduced by a sudden drop in temperature.
    • Nilverm LV will not affect the growth rate or egg production of the birds. Nor will it affect the fertility or the hatchability of eggs when used in accordance with directions.
